Emmet Fox Discussion Group - New!
Saturdays, 11:00 am
On Saturday, July 22, Unity of Wilmington begins an Emmet Fox Study Group facilitated by Terri Mann.
Emmet Fox (July 30, 1886 – August 13, 1951) was a New Thought spiritual leader and author of the early 20th century, famous for his large Divine Science church services held in New York City during the Great Depression. He is most famous for his pamphlet titled, The Golden Key, and his book The Sermon on The Mount: The Key to Success in Life.
The group is open to all from the greater Wilmington community and will begin with The Sermon on The Mount. What did Jesus teach? Distilled from years of study and lecture, affirmed by nearly a million readers over the last fifty years, Emmet Fox's answer in The Sermon on the Mount is simple. The Bible is a "textbook of metaphysics" and the teachings of Jesus express--without dogma--a practical approach for the development of the soul and for the shaping of our lives into what we really wish them to be. For Fox, Jesus was "no sentimental dreamer, no mere dealer in empty platitudes, but the unflinching realist that only a great mystic can be."
In this most popular work, Emmet Fox shows how to: Understand the true nature of divine wisdom. Tap into the power of prayer. Develop a completely integrated and fully expressed personality. Transform negative attitudes into life-affirming beliefs. Claim our divine right to the full abundance of life.
Ongoing Classes and Programs
Curious Souls - A Spiritual Study Group
Sundays, 2:00 pm
Meeting Location: The Parlor
“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” --Albert Einstein
Like meditation, real spiritual study is often more effective in a supportive setting--in a group of like-minded seekers. We are a collection of interested, curious souls who intend to encounter and explore authentic spirituality. Our primary goal is to assimilate spiritual concepts and learn to apply them to our everyday lives. Within the group we are free to express (or not) our own appeal to spiritual processes.
Join Jill Lahnstein and Rhonda Limoges on Sundays at 2 pm to study and discuss sacred texts, spiritual poetry, new ideas, and empowering thought--in an open, welcoming environment.
Curious Souls is currently discussing Dwellings: A Spiritual History of the Living World by Linda Hogan.
July 23 - August 13: Book Discussion of Dwellings: A Spiritual History of the Living World by Linda Hogan
August 20: The Poetry of Rumi with Rev. Mindy Tucker
Hogan has described her book in this way:
"People, animals, land -- the alive and conscious world -- populate Dwellings in this exploration of the human place within the world. I write out of respect for the natural world, recognizing that humankind is not separate from nature. Some of this work connects the small world of humans with the larger universe, containing us in the same way that native ceremonies do, showing us both our place and a way of seeing.
These are lessons learned from the land and it is my hope that this work contributes to an expanded vision of the world. Dwellings is both of and about this alive and conscious world. Its pages come from forests, its words spring from the giving earth."
Friday Morning Book Study
Fridays, 10:00 - 11:45 a.m. The Friday Book Study group is reading The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and Douglas Carlton Abrams. A Course in Miracles
Sundays and Wednesdays, 7:00 -8:30 p.m. A Course In Miracles teaches a thought system – a way of seeing and understanding—based on love and oneness with Spirit and with each other, as contrasted with the thought system the world teaches which is based on fear and separation. The Course shows how our human (or ego) minds resists these ideas because of our attachment to our separate bodies.
The group meets on Sunday evenings in the parlor and in the Uniteen room on Wednesdays. We read the text together and discuss the material. We welcome you to visit to see if this is for you. The book also includes a workbook section made up of daily lessons. For more information contact Kate Martin.
Mondays at 7:00 p.m. A unique group welcoming all men who wish to grow spiritually and mindfully through open-minded and compassionate discussion in a safe, confidential fellowship. All men are welcome!
Tuesdays, 5:00-7:00 p.m. After a 2012 visit by dr. michael ryce, Unity of Wilmington formed a support group to encourage each other in the use of forgiveness tools he teaches. Thursdays at 7:00 pm. Deepen your connection with the Divine. Spending time in meditation deepens our connection with the God of our Being, reduces stress, and increases our ability to focus our attention. Scientific research has shown that people who meditate are more creative. Whatever benefit you are seeking, come find it among like minded people as we spend time in the silence together. Love offering.
