Men's Gathering, Wednesdays at 7:00
p.m.
All men of Unity
are invited to
participate in a men's gathering facilitated by Rev.
Russell Heiland. Together we are exploring the concepts presented
by James Hollis in his book
Under Saturn's Shadow, the Wounding and Healing of Men.
Hollis says of this book:
In focusing on men’s issues, it is not my intention to minimize
the wounds of women. We of the male gender owe a deep debt of
gratitude to those women who have spoken out, not only to
express their own pain within our sexist culture, but also to
free men to be more fully themselves. Their cri de coeur has
helped men look more consciously to their own wounding, and we
are all better served as a result. The example of women
struggling to free themselves from the shadows of the collective
gives courage and makes it necessary for men to do likewise.
Unless men can emerge from darkness, we shall continue to wound
women and each other, and the world can never be a safe or
healthy place. This work we do, then, is not only for ourselves
but also for those around us.
If you are a man who desires to know your wholeness and holiness
more completely than ever before, make plans to join this
gathering of men. Join us as often as you can!

Jesus for the Non-Religious, Tuesdays at
7:00 p.m.
- Jesus - the central figure in the
Christian
tradition, but what do we really know about him? How do we discern
the facts from the myths from the Truth? How can the Christian
families of faith differ so widely on their understanding of him?
And is Jesus still relevant today?
Rev. Russell Heiland will be leading a group study of Jesus for the
Non-Religious, the newest book by John Shelby Spong, former
Episcopal Bishop of Newark (and North Carolina native), that will
explore these questions and more. The text is available in Fellowship Hall.
Bishop Spong will be the keynote speaker at this year’s UMMAS
retreat at the Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC in
September. He’s a gifted speaker and engaging author, and once you
read his book, you’ll definitely want to plan to attend the retreat.
He mentions Unity in the forward of this book.
Jesus for the Non-Religious will not win converts to the traditional
Christian perspective of him; rather, it is geared to engage your
mind and your heart as you come to an understanding what it was
about this 1st century Jewish man that has had such a profound
effect on humankind. This work is a natural fit in your Unity
library.
Improv, Thursday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m.
Do you like to have
fun and laugh? If so, this group is for you! No
experience is necessary and there's really nothing to learn.
We meet monthly and choose formats and themes randomly.
Everyone is welcome to join us! Contact Annette Cook in the
office for more information.
'Souper' Sunday,
August 17 at 12:15 p.m. - The
third Sunday of the month is Unity’s ‘Souper’ Sunday. We ask
you to sign up to bring soup, bread or goodies to share. These
are good items to balance in your hand so you can wander around
and enjoy conversations with friends, old and new. We are
always eager to taste a new recipe. All soups are welcome!
A Course in Miracles
teaches a thought system -
a way of seeing and understanding - based on love and oneness with
Spirit and with each other, as contrasted with the thought system
the world teaches which is based on fear and separation. The
Course shows how our human (or ego) minds resist these ideas because
of our attachment to our separate bodies and are, therefore, in
competition with each other. There are two groups meeting
weekly: Fridays at 11:00 a.m. and Sundays at 7:00 p.m. |
