Welcome to Youth and Family Ministry at Unity of Wilmington! Our youth and family programs honor each child and family as an expression of the Divine. We instill in our children the Truth that they are magnificent, holy children of God, just the way they are. Each Sunday our children and teens explore Unity principles and teachings in a fun, engaging, safe and interactive environment.
From our Youth Education Director Marie Chonko!
As many of you know, we have come to an end of our 'Summer of Service' and I am so appreciative and grateful to all of the kids and adults who served with kindness, willingness, respect and some with great enthusiasm. You have impressed me with your stewardship and awesome attitudes for a job that was not all that fun, but very necessary.
Curriculum for the Children:
September begins our campaign to study and implement the 12 Powers! This will be our curriculum for the school year. We will begin with September power of Divine Order. Those who are not acquainted with the 12 Powers can access knowledge online (truthunity.net) or in the church library.
Christmas Play - The Long Christmas List, Sunday, December 17, 11:00 am - Any child/teen who wishes to participate is welcome to take part. There are speaking parts, singing parts and instrumental parts so there is lots to go around. We are even getting our choir to join in the fun!
If your child wishes to participate, they must attend Sunday school to learn their parts. We will not be scheduling any rehearsal times after school or in the evenings due to my own work.
Children's Christmas Party, Sunday, December 17, 12:30 pm - Following the 11:00 am service, Youth Ed will be celebrating with our annual Christmas party. Festivities will begin around 12:30 pm in the Sanctuary. If the weather is pleasant, we hope to have some out door activities as well.
Stay tuned for info on all of our activities as I will be posting upcoming news on the "Parent Board" which is above the sign-in table. Please get in the habit of checking it weekly for updates, changes, news and birthdays. Speaking of birthdays... any kids who have a birthday in September, make a note of it on the Parent Board so we can honor them.
I am so looking forward to my first year as Youth Education Director and with all this combined knowledge, goodwill and loving presence we should have a stellar year.
Each classroom is staffed by a team of loving and dedicated volunteers who enthusias-tically guide our youth through their own personal discovery of their relationship with God. What a powerful impact we can have on their lives! In a typical week after checking your children in with Marie, they spend ten minutes in the Sunday service with the adults. Moving into the classrooms, our lessons then become age specific. Prior to the end of each service, the children and teens join the adults in the Sanctuary for a special blessing acknowledging their contributions to our spiritual family, followed by the Peace Song and the Prayer for Protection. See how our classes are organized.
Support our Youth!
Our Youth and Family Ministry is mostly self supporting and as such, we always welcome any financial support to help our Uniteens and Y.O.U. travel to their off-campus events as well as the purchase Unity curriculum and learning supplies.
Two Annual Events! The scrumptious Pancake Breakfast in the Fall and the Red Hot Chili Cook-off in the Spring. Yum!
“I am constantly amazed by the depth of spiritual understanding our youth share with me and am thankful for the opportunity to a part of their empowerment.” Rev. Mindy Tucker
