...youth education
The mission of the Youth Education Department of Unity of Wilmington is to “empower children
and youth to use spiritual wisdom to fulfill their soul’s purpose.” We see “education as a process,
through which we effectively support the unfolding of the child’s spiritual nature and model the
living of spiritual principles.”

The Association of Unity Churches has developed programs for different age groups based on
the philosophy that children themselves are “a living curriculum.” See what's happening in the
new
Unity Family Matters website.  Utilizing Unity co-founder Myrtle Fillmore’s view that it is our
mission to draw children out spiritually and to aid in their “soul’s unfoldment,” our curricula
facilitate self-affirmation and growth.  For more information regarding Unity's youth programs in
our area visit

We invite you to contact us if serving the youth and families of our community appeals to you.
Currently Unity of Wilmington has six different youth education programs. They are as follows:

Nursery (0- 3 years old): Our nursery is staffed by caring, competent and professional care
providers who tend to the little ones while their parents and guardians attend our 11:00 a.m.
Celebration Worship Service.

3-4 Year Olds: What a Wonderful World, the curriculum used in this class, focuses on “who I
am” as a child of God, exploring our nature as unique, loving, compassionate, and creative
beings – one with god and all that is; and on “who we are” as a family and community together,
exploring experiences of cooperation, peace-making, care-taking and the diversity of our world
family.

5-7 Year Olds: Celebrating My God-self, the curriculum used in this class, presents basic Unity
principles through stories, affirmations, Bible verses, music, creative expression and other
activities. Written and published by our Association of Unity Churches, this curriculum is based
on Unity’s Living Curriculum philosophy that “that which is to be learned or known is not within
any guide, but rather lives in the children themselves.”

8-10 Year Olds: With the objective “to honor each child as a unique and valuable person,” this
class presents the Twelve Powers of Man, as taught by Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore and
five basic principles of Unity. It shows how these spiritual tools can be used easily in the children’
s daily lives, thanks to Unity’s Color Key Program and the research work of the Hafey team,
Marilyn and Michelle. This class format includes the “God can” (prayer box), prayer time,
personal affirmations for the week, meditations relating to the week’s lesson and personal
journals.

Uniteens (11-13 year olds): This group is organized for a particularly crucial age group, 11-13,
and follows Unity principles to give pre-teens the opportunity to internalize Unity principles that
support the inner Christ and their personal sense of self. The Uniteen group structure is founded
on respect for the individual. Unity tools that promote spiritual growth are key, along with genuine
concern from their peers and mentoring from the sponsors.

Youth of Unity (14-18 year olds): The program for high school youth is the culmination of Unity
youth spiritual education. It is a special peer-driven, Unity structured support group for teens in
the critical high school years.
