Notes from the Revs: Rev. Nickie

The writer of Proverbs invites us to: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Proverbs 3:5. In the bible, the heart is our self at its deepest level, and it is the spiritual center of the total self. The heart refers to our inner being as a whole.  The ancient Hebrews didn’t have a word for the brain, and they considered the heart as the seat of intelligence for each person. We live in the consciousness of Love and wisdom by trusting God with all our hearts.

It takes a deep understanding of God as our source to live from our heart space.  We must have an experience of being centered in God to recognize that the whole of the universe is centered wherever we are in life.  Many people live their life based on what is occurring around them. For example, if life is going well, we experience joy; however, if we perceive events in our lives to not be going well, we experience fear. When we live in this manner, we are at the effect of our environment. The world feels unstable to people who are living outwardly focused. When we get out of alignment, we will see the world as unsafe.  When we live from our heart space, we can draw upon our inner strength and live our lives based on spiritual principle that is unchanging.  Our thinking/feeling experience will place us in alignment with the flow of life, or we will experience a sense of separation from God and others. God is Love, and we are Love.  When we open our hearts and allow ourselves to trust the principles of the universe, we can truly live as the author of 1 Timothy 1:6 invites us to do daily, “rekindle the gift of God that is within you.”  Then, we can trust the Lord with all our hearts every day.
